What is MyWeddingBetting?

MyWeddingBetting is a non-gambling wedding prediction gamefor reception guests. Before the event, the couple creates a set of fun predictions about their wedding day — things like who will cry first, how long the best man's speech runs, or who catches the bouquet.

Guests join by scanning a QR code. No app download required. Each guest places their predictions using fictional currency called MatriMoney — named after matrimony — which has zero real-world value and keeps the game legal entertainment in all 50 US states.

Throughout the night, a trusted person (the DJ, coordinator, or a family member) resolves predictions as events unfold. A live leaderboard displays on any screen. The guest with the most MatriMoney at the end wins bragging rights.

Why it was built

The average wedding reception has natural lulls — cocktail hour, the wait between dinner and dancing, the gap between speeches. Guests who don't know each other end up on their phones. Wedding bingo helps, but it's passive: guests wait for things to happen.

Joe built MyWeddingBetting to flip that dynamic. When guests commit to a prediction before an event happens, they watch that event completely differently. The father-of-the-bride speech becomes something people are genuinely invested in. The bouquet toss matters. The first dance has stakes.

The goal was simple: make the reception feel like the most entertaining 3 hours your guests have ever had at a wedding — using nothing more than their phones and a $30 setup.
